Das Studio arbeitet mit Amazon derzeit an einer Serie, die The Colony Film dem Film basiert. But that's why Amazon's announcement about its exclusive TV series based on 's Event Horizon is so intriguing. This quirky, goth-horror space film is far from an established franchise.
In fact, compared to some of the sci-fi juggernauts that came out during the 90s— Terminator 2, Gattaca, The Matrix— it would likely rank near the bottom on most film critics' lists.
Also, when compared to other big Amazon projects in the pipeline like The Lord of the Rings , Event Horizon seems like an odd fit—but it might be one of the best sci-fi worlds worth revisiting.
Event Horizon follows the crew of the Lewis and Clark as its captain Laurence Fishburne and scientist Sam Neill investigate the disappearance—and ominous reappearance—of the titular Event Horizon , an experimental ship with the capability of faster-than-light travel.
Of course, once Fishburne and crew arrive at the Event Horizon , things are much more sinister than they could have possibly imagined.
Twenty-two years later, Event Horizon refuses to be forgotten. Despite its production troubles—director Paul W.
Anderson had to cut nearly one-quarter of the film due to intense violence , and post-production was incredibly rushed—the film has only grown in cult status.
It's remembered today as a film brimming with great ideas and set design that sometimes fails in execution. Hopefully, that's where Amazon can help.
Event Horizon doesn't have tremendous hype to live up to nor is it laden with nostalgia that needs inevitable referencing.
But the most exciting thing about Event Horizon is that it's nearly a blank canvas ready for exploration. It doesn't have tremendous hype to live up to nor is it laden with nostalgia that needs inevitable referencing though Laurence Fishburne is always welcome.
It's just a sci-fi world that's been sitting in the attic for 22 years, and Amazon is finally going to dust it off. Kindle Edition , pages.

More filters. Sort order. Mar 20, Sheila rated it liked it Shelves: apocalyptic-or-dystopian , kindle. While I love this author other books I have read by him, and while this book kept me interested, I have to say that sadly this book suffered from "middle book syndrome" for me.
It is book 2 in a trilogy of books on an apocalyptic event, and for me this book ended up just being "filler". There was not a lot of progress or character development, and most of the story was devoted to two very large gun battles, and to detailed descriptions of guns, ammo, and carnage.
As an example of what I mean, h While I love this author other books I have read by him, and while this book kept me interested, I have to say that sadly this book suffered from "middle book syndrome" for me.
The gun rattled the turret mount, ejecting shells downward into the cabin, but stayed lined up on the tightly packed group of insurgents. The first extended burst punched more than thirty 7.
The second burst shredded the remaining upright bodies, splattering the pavement with bloody entrails, chunks of flesh and skull matter. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I am looking forward to reading the third and final book in this series though. I want to see how things end, I want to find out WHAT caused this event, this Perseid Collapse, as we still have not been told exactly what caused this event that unleashed this devastation on the USA.
I'm just not sure that book 2 was needed, unless someone wants to compare all of these types of guns and ammo as described, and compare the carnage and devastation to bodies that they cause when used.
Me, I prefer more plot development. View 1 comment. May 14, Heather Faville rated it it was amazing. Picking up where The Perseid Collapse ended, Event Horizon throws it's readers immediately into the fray.

We learn about Alex Fletcher's son, Ryan, and what he did during the beginning of this disaster, but we are soon flipping back and forth between Alex and his main goal of getting to his son and his son's girlfriend Chloe, Alex's wife Kate and their family and neighbors who are fortifying the Fletcher's "safe house" and the militia, calling themselves The Liberty Boys, that is doing all they can to take control of the situation I was very much looking forward to the release of Event Horizon and while I hated the wait, I was not left disappointed.
I thoroughly enjoyed every single moment of this book. I may not have always agreed with tactics used in certain situations, but that is what I enjoy about this series.
Right or wrong decisions must be made. Ok, yes, the Fletcher's are what most of society would call "preppers" and they are for all intents and purposes pretty well stocked.
Some readers may see them as, too well prepared, but let's face it. There are some people out there who will do just fine surviving should a WROL event happen and they must tap into their supplies, so why it is so far fetched that our main protagonist is prepared to care for his family?
Sure some people's opinion are to be scoffed at and told they are crazy, but who's the first person you're going to run to for help or, if you're one of those, to steal from?
Maybe those people should start stocking up on their own. Eventually, after quite a battle to get home, the Fletcher's et al are reunited, but, of course, this cannot be the end to their hardship.
All that hard work on the safe house that Kate and the rest of the crew worked on? Yeah, that has to be tested as does the patience and endurance of many of the members of our group.
Will anyone get hurt? Will Eli and his Liberty Boys succeed in getting revenge on the Fletcher's and taking over their home? The only way you'll ever know is hop over and grab yourself a copy of Event Horizon.
If there is any question at all of my opinion of this book let me say just this. Dec 24, John Wiltshire rated it really liked it.
I crashed into this one from the first, as basically it's a seamless story and the parts don't stand alone at all. Alex is fighting his way out of Boston and runs into an old marine friend, now commanding his own battalion.
By agreeing to help, Alex gets his rescue team a safe escort back to the compound where the rest of the family are waiting. The Alamo is an apt analogy.
I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as I crashed into this one from the first, as basically it's a seamless story and the parts don't stand alone at all.
I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first, but it's pretty non-stop military action and certainly kept me reading. I'm now on the third and final episode Point of Crisis , as again, this one just stops abruptly and you are pretty much forced to read on for a decent conclusion.
I had read the previous book in this series some time ago so it took me a while to get the characters sorted in my mind, and I had forgotten a lot of the details of their interrelationships.
The author waded right in to the story which would make it difficult for someone who had not read the previous book. Konkoly is quite knowledgeable about military language and uses it without explanation throughout the book but it can be figured out well enough.
He does not spend a lot of time instructin I had read the previous book in this series some time ago so it took me a while to get the characters sorted in my mind, and I had forgotten a lot of the details of their interrelationships.
He does not spend a lot of time instructing readers on how to prepare for the Apocalypse which can be boring and perhaps most of the book describes conflict from skirmishes to full battles.
I will probably get "Point of Crisis", the next book in the series and read that in a couple of weeks so I don't have to relearn who all the characters are.
Dec 17, Bee Glosson rated it really liked it. Solid follow up to the first book in the series. With the characters being established in the first book, this book gives a better story without having to labor through the original building that slowed the first book down.
Action from beginning to end keeps the flow well. Alex fletcher makes a compelling character and eli Russell a persistent thorn in his side. This book finishes with a solid stopping point unlike book 1.
Solid 4 stars. Oct 11, Bertha Ivins rated it really liked it. I like reading books about post apocalyptic times, but I would like a little more on preparing for the event.
Mar 10, Katherine rated it really liked it. I enjoyed this one better. It has a wider variety of characters and more planning of operations.
Of course it ends with a to-be-continued. So on to number 3. Apr 20, Lynn Hallbrooks rated it it was amazing. I found myself joining Mr. In exchange he gifted me and I'm sure others this story.
The opinions expressed below are in no way influenced by this and are my honest thoughts. This is book is a mixture of military and post-apocalypse Alex Fletcher, U.
Marine veteran, set out to get his son from Boston and bring him home. This was a difficult task considering the chaos t I previously read and enjoyed The Jakarta Pandemic the prequel to the Perseid Collapse series.
This was a difficult task considering the chaos that ensued after the event that has left America without electricity and minimal working vehicles.
Nevertheless he is driven to succeed at any and all cost at bringing his boy home alive. Will father and son reunite?
If they do what is in store for them and the rest of Alex's family? I enjoyed this story so much it was hard to put down to do the things I had to do.
Having read the previous two books in this series, I had already gotten to know the main characters. I truly believe Mr. Konkoly does a great job of sharing the thoughts and reasons behind the decisions that they make.
Overall the characters believe that family comes first and must be protected at all cost. Warning: This book is for Mature Audiences due to graphic violence, adult language, and a hint of sexual situations.
Mar 09, Ashley O'Leary rated it it was amazing. Nice work This book wraps up the first two nicely. The way the author slowly shows fletchers experience in the marines makes what he does more believable.
The antagonist however is a tiny bit far fetched. Especially the amount of people he can recruit mere moments after a savage killing.
All in all this is a fun series. I will read the next one. Mar 25, Mel rated it it was amazing Shelves: dystopian. I've said it before and I'll say it again.
This series just keeps getting better. I even believe the author is hitting his stride as the writing keeps getting better with each book.
It has everything I'm along for the ride now. Nov 05, Susan rated it really liked it. Event Horizon is the second book in the Perseid Collapse series.
I've read other books by this author, including the first book in the series, and was looking forward to reading this book.
This story is violent and not for sensitive readers. While you can read this as a standalone, I don't recommend that as you will be confused with what is going on.
Not only does Event Horizon start right where Perseid Collapse ended, it also ends in a cliffhanger for the next book. The book blurb adequately des Event Horizon is the second book in the Perseid Collapse series.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. The author did a good job of summarizing the first book for new readers to give them a better understanding of the main characters and settings in the series.
The series has well developed characters. There is a lot going on that keeps you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next.
While the first book and storyline kept me riveted, this one did not until the last few chapters. The story starts out with fast paced action and that continues throughout the book.
It is amazing how much story, details, and action the author packs into the book Along the way there are some unexpected surprises as well.
The Perseid Collapse is a series definitely worth reading. And I will read the next book. Dec 16, John Podlaski rated it really liked it.
Event Horizon picks up exactly where book one, The Perseid Collapse, ended. As with book 1, this book spends too much time at planning what should happen instead of allowing the story to be told; almost repetitive in places which seems to bog the story down.
The ending is somewhat complete as the battle at Alex Father's farm concludes against the local militia more of a street gang - its leader reminds me of Neegan in the Walking Dead TV series and doesn't just end in a major cliff-hanger.
However, I wouldn't recommend that readers read this without having read book one in the series. Readers also discover that the US military in the area is led by Alex's former commander in Iraq, and as a condition of helping Alex rescue the kids from the college, he has to accept reactivation at his former rank of Captain.
True to his word, the military unit assists during the rescue of the kids and at the farm battle - Now Alex must return the favor and take over a military battalion in a different state; a mission that will be covered in the next book.
I am taking a break from this series and haven't decided yet if I'll return. I would like to see how the series ends and might have to bite the bullet down the road.
Nov 22, Rachael Ashak-Benson rated it it was amazing. Keeps getting better!! Best book in series yet!! So completely enjoyable in every way. Non-stop action from start to finish.
Steven Konkoly is one of the top fiction writers out there today, and not just in the apocalypse genre. The scenes within this story are so rich in depth and detail, you feel like you are there.

Searching the ship for signs of life, the rescue crew learns that the Event Horizon was a test bed for an experimental engine that opened a rift in the space—time continuum and left our universe entirely, allowing a malevolent entity to possess the ship.
The film had a troubled production history, with filming and editing rushed by Paramount when it became clear that Titanic would not meet its projected release date.
The original minute cut of the film was heavily edited by demand of the studio, to the consternation of director Paul W. Even so, it began to sell well on home video ; its initial DVD release sold so well that Paramount contacted Anderson shortly after its release to begin working on a restoration of the deleted footage.
In the years since, the film has slowly built a cult following and is often referenced in other works of popular culture.
In , a distress signal is received from the Event Horizon , a starship that disappeared during its maiden voyage to Proxima Centauri seven years previously that has mysteriously reappeared in a decaying orbit around Neptune.
The rescue vessel Lewis and Clark is dispatched. William Weir, who designed the Event Horizon. He briefs the crew on the ship's experimental gravity drive , which generates an artificial black hole and uses it to bridge two points in spacetime , reducing travel time over astronomical distances.
The distress signal seems to consist of a series of screams and howls but D. Upon boarding the Event Horizon , the crew finds evidence of a massacre.
As they search for survivors, the ship's gravity drive activates, briefly pulling Justin into the resulting portal and causing a shock wave that damages the Lewis and Clark , forcing the entire crew to board the Event Horizon.
Justin emerges in a catatonic state , traumatized by what he saw on the other side. He attempts suicide by decompression, but is saved by Miller, forcing the crew to place him in stasis.
The team begins to experience apparitions of individuals from their past that only they can see, [9] hallucinations corresponding to their fears and regrets: Miller sees Corrick, a subordinate he was forced to abandon to his death, Peters sees her son with his legs covered in bloody lesions and Weir sees an eyeless vision of his late wife, who committed suicide, urging him to join her.
The crew soon discover a video log of the Event Horizon ' s crew fornicating and mutilating each other shortly after first engaging the gravity drive.
The video log ends with a shot of the Event Horizon ' s captain holding out his own eyes gouged from its sockets speaking the complete Latin phrase from the earlier distress call, which D.
Deducing that the ship's gravity drive opened a gateway to a hellish dimension outside the known universe , and that the Event Horizon has somehow attained sentience , Miller decides to destroy the Event Horizon and orders an evacuation.
Peters is lured to her death by a hallucination of her son. Weir, who has gouged his own eyes out and is now possessed by the evil presence, uses an explosive device to destroy the Lewis and Clark.
The explosion kills Smith and blasts Cooper off into space. Weir kills D. Miller confronts Weir, who overpowers him and initiates a minute countdown until the Event Horizon will return to the other dimension by activating the gravity drive.
Cooper, having used his space suit's oxygen supply to propel himself back to the ship, appears at the bridge window.
Weir shoots at him and is blown into space by the ensuing decompression. Miller, Starck, and Cooper survive and manage to seal off the ship's bridge.
With their own ship destroyed, Miller plans to split the Event Horizon in two and use the forward section of the ship as a lifeboat.
He is attacked by manifestations of Corrick which turns out to be the resurrected Dr. Miller fights them off and detonates the explosives, sacrificing himself.
The gravity drive activates, pulling the ship's stern section into a black hole. Starck and Cooper enter stasis beside a comatose Justin, and wait to be rescued.
Seventy-two days later, the wreckage of the Event Horizon is boarded by a rescue party, who discover the remaining crew still in stasis.
Starck sees Weir posing as one of the rescuers and screams in terror; this is revealed to be a nightmare with Starck waking up moments later.
Cooper and the rescue team comfort the newly-awakened and terrified Starck as the bulkheads close. Anderson was inundated with screenplay offers, as well as the opportunity to direct the Mortal Kombat sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation , [10] and the upcoming X-Men Anderson had in mind a "classic haunted house movie", incorporating significant influences to moderately successful horror films such as Robert Wise 's The Haunting and Kubrick 's The Shining because they enforce suspense from the unknown, meaning the ghost or creature was hidden from the viewer, and their endings induced ambiguities of perception in the audience.
Screenwriter Philip Eisner acknowledged Warhammer 40, as a major inspiration for the plot. Many fans of Warhammer 40, consider Event Horizon to be an unofficial prequel to the former, when humankind discovers the Warp and learns of its dangers the hard way.
As Anderson explains, directors usually have a standard week editing period to produce the first cut of a film, as guaranteed by the Directors Guild of America.
However, due to the short production schedule of the film, the rapidly approaching release date, and the fact that principal photography had not yet finished, Anderson agreed with the Paramount studio to an editing period of six weeks and promised to deliver the film by August , as Paramount wanted to have a hit film before Titanic's planned September release date.
When the main unit wrapped, Anderson was supposed to start editing the film, but he still had to shoot two weeks with the second unit , effectively shortening the time he could spend in post-production to just four weeks.
In that short amount of time, only a rough cut of the film could be assembled. Anderson notes that at two hours and 10 minutes, it was overly long, with weak directing and acting that could have used another editing pass, unfinished special effects, and a poor sound mix.
In test screenings , the cut was poorly received. There were complaints about the extreme amount of gore, [7] and Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt claim members of the test audience fainted during the screening.
