Lepontic inscriptions are not the most ancient engravings on this rock. There are also a scene with a sort of a priest together with some wolves and a small anthropomorphic figure; they all find good comparisons among the figures of the so called Situlae Art of the 5th century BC.
This chronology seems to be confirmed for the figures are covered by the engraved inscriptions, which are therefore an important terminus ante quem.
Particularly difficult is defining the chronology of some figures of spears, which could be in tight relation with the Lepontic inscriptions, due to some cases of superimposition that must be confirmed by future analysis.

The need arises from the different approach of providing the record between scholars, as the authors, who apply the tracing on transparency sheets called Cristal, and the Soprintendenza ai Beni Archeologici of Lombardy SAL , who not only regretted that method as not objective, but also prevented it, proposing new applications, as photogrammetry and laser scanner 3D, while using de facto old methods as the frottage or the outline of the fi gures engraved in lectures given at Congresses.
The long history of the research for the best method of recording engraved rock art was aimed by the need of the analytical reading of the fi gures and their relations, to obtain a chronological sequence and a correct interpretation.
This lead to consider the tracing on Cristal sheet while enlightening the fi gures with grazing light by mirror, as the most suitable method to read the engraved fi gures with the specifi c purpose of their analytical study.
Obviously no regret is put on the use of photogrammetry or laser scanner 3D, but these methods proved to be more useful for conservation needs than for a proper archaeological study.
Moreover their application is very expensive, needing a very high level of defi nition, especially for laser scanner 3D, to obtain a trustworthy print of micro scratches and each engraved spot of the fi gures.
So the use of these methods imply very limited achievement of documentation for their great expense, while Valcamonica and Valtellina rock art need a large campaign of recording.
The authors consider the lack of published archaeological study provided by photogrammetry and laser scanner 3D, after more than ten years of applications, as a prove of the diffi culties of analysis by these methods.
So concluding they consider the tracing as a real archaeological drawing, especially useful for the study of every single part of the rock engravings, which enriches the record provided by the new methods, without damaging the rock at all.

Only by using a metal detector it was possible to recover some objects on the southwards slope of the terrace were the rock is situated.
The most important objects found are a bronze fibula of Certosa type VI C, dating to the 5th century BC and two pieces of aes rude that can be attributed to a period between the 5th and the 3rd century BC.
This impor tant findings confirm the haunting of the site in ancient periods, tha t correspond either to the 5th century BC engraved figures and to the 3rd-1st century BC pr eroman inscriptions.
This type of fibula and the aes rude are common votive gifts in sanctuaries of the Paleoveneti culture, in the alpine Brandopfer plätze or in the sanctuaries near the alpine passes Malnitzer Tauer, Austria.
The aes rude was probably offered because of its pr e-monetary value; from the 3rd century BC, when a monetary economy is already established, coins are the usual offer in sanctuaryies of every kind.
Many similarity with the Great S. Bernardo pass are reconfirmed, although the Valsecca pass, near the CMS 1 rock, should have had a very secondar y role, because it could not be crossed by carriages, but only by foot.
